My balloon man

A couple of months back, I posted that DW had a great imagination with mega blocks. He has decided to put that imagination to use again, this time round, on balloons!

And he's so darn serious that he's actually signed up for a course on this! I'm expecting many more designs after the course definitely, but meanwhile these are the few which he has done so far. Very impressive for an amateur! So if any of you out there needs a balloon man for free for your kids' parties, you know who to call *wink*

One Painted Nail

I was at my usual nail place, preparing my nails for the party tonight. JD popped by just as I was about to finish drying them and because she gave the girls there such an endearing smile, they wanted to paint her nails. I wasn't too keen as I didn't want to instill vanity in her at such a young age and I also dread the chemicals which she may inhale, especially from the polish remover.

Eventually I agreed to ONE nail, JUST ONE nail. And boy, she was so excited about her little pink thumb. She literally walked around Parkway after that with her clenched fist and a little thumb sticking out, proudly showing off her freshly painted nail to people who walked past.

Jd's CNY story

This is JD's 2nd year celebrating CNY and it's really a vast difference compared to last year's celebration. Last year she was a moody, bawling baby. This year she was able to interact with her aunties & uncles. She walks around and greets them with her clenched fists of gong xi gong xi, she stretches her hand out for her ang pows and she laughs along with them, though she doesn't understand what the joke's about. She's a beautiful 17 month baby and I'm loving her more & more each day.

But Ah Seng decided to be brave & tried to smack the tiger

抓週

Had a little tykes gathering over at Kym's place on Saturday and to add to the mood of the mooncake festival, we had the traditional 抓週, all in the name of fun.

For JD, hers was a pretty quick pick. She took a long, deciding glance and went to the garlic, picked it up and handed it over to mommy.

Garlic = 蒜: 代表善於計算

1st reaction was from Dw who said (quite loudly for all to hear): Wah, just like her mommy. Haha. I can juat imagine that if Fong & BB were there, it would have been a trio chorus.

Planning baby girl's party

This is so reminiscent of my wedding preps 3 years back. We had to think of the date, the venue, the menu, the guests, the list goes on.

Finally after much debate, if to hold it on Saturday or Sunday, at home or outside, whether to have a bbq or a buffet or both, whether to invite everyone or just limit to family and close friends, we have come to a decision. It will be a Sunday lunch at the Club and we'll only open it to family and the really really close friends, where everybody knows everybody!

Now comes the part which I dread most, the rsvps. It was good that most people had the initiative to let me know if they were attending my wedding but I distinctly remember the handful who just got on my nerves. They kept saying not sure, not sure. Well, screw them. Not sure then don't come. If only they were more emphatic that the hosts have alot on their hands and time could be better spent making the party more memorable for those who were sincere in taking part in the celebration instead of having to chase and beg them for their replies.

I can only hope 3 years on people are better educated on manners and since this is a closed door affair, family & best friends will be much kinder.

Thanks Aunty G for helping me design my invite :) xoxo JD

Happy Birthday Dw!

We had lunch at THE LINE. Nope, we weren't in time to get a space for the Flash Your Age promo, but since Dw & my parents have been yearning for a meal there for the longest time, I thought why not?

Frankly, I wasn't too impressed. It could be that I had high expectations after all the hype from the media or maybe it has become too affordable for the masses. Every Tom, Dick and Harry were there, rushing for the food, snapping up each satay stick as it came out. It was just too noisy and too crowded. With that kind of madhouse atmosphere, I would rather go to a hawker centre and enjoy better tasting food. My preferred choice is still The Rose Veranda, it allows audible conversation and a relaxing afternoon tea opportunity.

Birthdays in June

My dad & I had the honour of having baby girl's presence at our birthday celebrations this year.

For my dad's birthday, we went to Rose Veranda for the Flash your Age promotion, thus we had a whopping 69% discount! Pity The Line was fully booked. Nevertheless, he still did have a feast especially when we adjourned to revolving Prima for his favourite peking duck. On this note, I've to say my daddy's a queer one. He's allergic to duck, ie, duck rice, duck noodle, braised duck etc. His skin will itch badly. BUT, this does not apply to Peking duck, strangely enough. His skin sure has high class taste :P

I believe this was a memorable day for him since he spent it with his lovely granddaughter who was surprisingly very well behaved at Shang. Maybe she knew that if she was naughty she would have been chased out so she decided to spend her time admiring chandeliers, smiling at the ang mo tais tais at the next table and.. gnawing on her seat.

1st New Year with our 1st baby

New Year's eve in 2007 was uneventful. Having just returned from Japan, DW & I were totally exhausted & knocked out to slumber land by 11pm. 2008 was not that different, in the sense that we did not go clubbing nor were there any rara countdown parties to attend. However, it was much much more meaningful since for the very 1st time, we could share this occasion with our baby girl. 31 Dec 2008 was not only New Year's Eve, it was also the day that Jilliane turned 4 months exactly.

To celebrate, I made a booking for a New Year Eve's buffet dinner at Trader's Hotel. It was also a chance for me to thank my parents for helping me take care of Jilliane when I'm at work. They've been wonderful mainly because their services do not cost me a cent! Ok, I'm just kidding. Whilst it's true that I need not pay any caregiver fees which I'm grateful for but the main reason for saying that is that I can go to work with a peace of mind knowing that my baby girl is in the safe hands of her maternal grandparents who so willingly sacrificed their active lifestyles & naptimes to look after their granddaughter. My baby girl is definitely not an easy one to care for because she sleeps much less than normal babies and cries alot more than others. Nevertheless, my parents have been the most patient and the kindest to put up with this. I reckon any other caregiver may have just given up and threw in the towel a long time ago.

Apart from this, there were several other milestones achieved with the coming of 2009. Jilliane was able to go on her tummy and lift her head. She has always fussed whenever we tried and it had gotten me rather worried as this would leave her far behind her peers who have all succeeded with this at least a month back. She is also able to enjoy the exersaucer by sitting in it with her head held high. All these happened so suddenly that it caught DW & me by surprise as just a day before, she wasn't able to. I'm also happy that we've managed to weaned her off her reflux medication and put her back to cow's milk. No more stressful medicine feeding time! Thanks Doc Cheng for your gung ho decision & advice! :)

Another cause worth celebrating is that the place my parents had bought what seems like eons ago has finally TOP. They had bought it way before I married and even after I had delivered my 1st baby 2 years later, it still wasn't ready. Now they will be even busier with the renovations. Jilliane can finally have a bedroom to call her own, though one might wonder if that is actually something which she looks forward to or would she still rather sleep in the same room with daddy & mummy.

Jilliane's 1st X'mas (thru her eyes)

It started out on a cold, wet X'mas Eve.

Mummy bundled me up in a pink poncho and off we went to church to wish Jesus happy birthday.

Mummy says Jesus on this day, many many years ago was like me, a little baby.. but he was born in a manger, whilst I had a comfortable time in the hospital nursery.

Daddy, Mummy, Ah Gong & Ah Ma had a feast, including a delicious looking log cake. I was forced to take a picture with the log cake. I just do not understand why I had to take a photo with food I can't even taste!

X'mas day itself was exciting! I had many presents, mainly clothes & toys.

In the afternoon when the sky started to clear, we headed down to Centrepoint as Mummy wanted to head for the Robinson's sale. I guess it's more toys & clothes for me! But alas, the crowd was horrendous and Mummy gave up. We ended up with coffee at New York New York.

That's my story for my 1st Christmas..
