Jilliane's 1st hairclip

I've finally succumbed to pressure and bought Jilliane her 1st hair accessory on Monday. (see photos below)

Since her birth, I've not been pro this idea as she doesn't have much hair & looks really odd with a girlie pin on her head. However, last Sunday was bad. I've had aunties in church coming up, stroking her cheek, calling "ah boy ah boy". At baby Hannah's man yue, I've had people asking "boy is it?" And mind you, this was despite me dressing her up in flowery romper & leggings!

I had always thought that it was merely for the sake of striking up a conversation, that people ask me if she was a boy or girl. But now that people have actually plunged right in to assume that she is a boy, it is getting quite disturbing. But I'm not pissed. Just highly amused :)

Mummy Best!

From the weekend that just passed:

1) I replied Candy's sms at 6+am on Saturday morning. When I met her later at Geri's wedding, she commented that I was awake as early as she was and apparently it's something most mothers are in sync with. Since JD's arrival, regardless weekend or weekday, it's a norm for me to automatically wake up at 3am just to have a peek at her in her cot and then again at 6am to prepare for her entire day's feed. According to my mom, this is mother's instinct and soon I'll be just like her 30 years ago, carrying JD to her peepot at 3am so she will learn not to wee wee on her bed.

2) At Geri's wedding, I was carrying JD in one hand, using the other to take food from the buffet spread. I didn't think much about it until I brought it back to the table and the guys, including Dw, started laughing and shaking their heads. I later learnt that they were in awe of my balancing act.

3) JD fell asleep in my arms in the car and I carried her all the way home. So as not to disrupt her sleep, I continued to carry her instead of putting her back in her cot. Again, without much thought I just changed out of my jeans to my Pj pants. When I walked out of the room, Dw asked if I did that with her in my arms! *LOL*

Jilliane resembles..

1st New Year with our 1st baby

New Year's eve in 2007 was uneventful. Having just returned from Japan, DW & I were totally exhausted & knocked out to slumber land by 11pm. 2008 was not that different, in the sense that we did not go clubbing nor were there any rara countdown parties to attend. However, it was much much more meaningful since for the very 1st time, we could share this occasion with our baby girl. 31 Dec 2008 was not only New Year's Eve, it was also the day that Jilliane turned 4 months exactly.

To celebrate, I made a booking for a New Year Eve's buffet dinner at Trader's Hotel. It was also a chance for me to thank my parents for helping me take care of Jilliane when I'm at work. They've been wonderful mainly because their services do not cost me a cent! Ok, I'm just kidding. Whilst it's true that I need not pay any caregiver fees which I'm grateful for but the main reason for saying that is that I can go to work with a peace of mind knowing that my baby girl is in the safe hands of her maternal grandparents who so willingly sacrificed their active lifestyles & naptimes to look after their granddaughter. My baby girl is definitely not an easy one to care for because she sleeps much less than normal babies and cries alot more than others. Nevertheless, my parents have been the most patient and the kindest to put up with this. I reckon any other caregiver may have just given up and threw in the towel a long time ago.

Apart from this, there were several other milestones achieved with the coming of 2009. Jilliane was able to go on her tummy and lift her head. She has always fussed whenever we tried and it had gotten me rather worried as this would leave her far behind her peers who have all succeeded with this at least a month back. She is also able to enjoy the exersaucer by sitting in it with her head held high. All these happened so suddenly that it caught DW & me by surprise as just a day before, she wasn't able to. I'm also happy that we've managed to weaned her off her reflux medication and put her back to cow's milk. No more stressful medicine feeding time! Thanks Doc Cheng for your gung ho decision & advice! :)

Another cause worth celebrating is that the place my parents had bought what seems like eons ago has finally TOP. They had bought it way before I married and even after I had delivered my 1st baby 2 years later, it still wasn't ready. Now they will be even busier with the renovations. Jilliane can finally have a bedroom to call her own, though one might wonder if that is actually something which she looks forward to or would she still rather sleep in the same room with daddy & mummy.
